2018 was a good year for music. We saw the release of several hit singles and albums. Many new artists emerged with fresh sounds and the regular names also blessed the music space with interesting projects. Burna Boy released his critically-acclaimed album Outside, Adekunle Gold released About 30, Seun Kuti released Black Times, Blaqbonez released Bad Boy Blaq, Boj and Ajebutter released Make E No Cause Fight, and many others. Generally, 2018 contained a lot of exciting projects that affirmed the indubitable quality of Afrobeats.
Although 2019 has been a bit interesting so far, it is still lacking in the aspect of remarkable projects. Until now, only a handful of acts have dropped projects including Falz (Moral Instruction), SDC (Clone Wars IV), Blaqbonez (Bad Boy Blaq re-up). There are still many more projects to look forward to.
Some artists have hinted that they would be dropping their respective projects this year. Also, there are others who are expected to feed their hungry fans who have been pleading. We have curated a list of Nigerian artists whose projects we eagerly wait. They include;
Wizkid
The starboy probably has the most loyal set of fans ever. Since the release of SFTOS, Wizkid’s fans have clamored for new projects. He teased that he would drop his album Made in Lagos last year but nothing was heard or seen.
He had an impressive year in 2018, delivering smoldering hot jams including Soco, Fever, Gucci Snake amidst others. He has since released three projects (two albums and one EP). The albums are Superstar and Ayo while the EP is SFTOS.
We should most likely expect the Made in Lagos album this year. Wizkid is already on the start to a good year as he’s in line to perform at various festivals.
Davido
Davido only has an album (OBO) and an EP (Son of Mercy) to his name. His fans have been begging for a new body of work.
Since his comeback to focus on the Nigerian sound in 2017 which led to the release of massively-acclaimed singles, If and Fall, Davido has been on a trajectory. He promised to release his album in 2018, however, he did not.
There has been so much anticipation around Davido’s next album. He stated that Migos, Young Thug, Rae Sremmurd amongst other prominent names would feature on the album.
Tiwa Savage
Tiwa is known to be the giver of standard jams. A generous goddess, you might call her. Tiwa has come a long way in a short span of time.
Tiwa has released two albums (Once Upon A Time, R.E.D) and an EP Sugarcane. She has released a number of amazing hit singles as well. Tiwa made a promise sometime last year that her album was soon to drop. She had a lovely 2018, collaborating with different artists such as Duncan Mighty, Slimcase, Wizkid, and more.
Her fans have wailed and screamed, holding out hope that their favorite singer would someday drop her album.
Runtown
Runtown is a captivating artist who is regarded as one of the most gifted acts in the Nigerian music industry. His songwriting skills are notably good and he has written for different artists both locally and internationally.
The Soundgod has released one studio album Ghetto University so far. The album was commercially successful and it helped Runtown rise to a higher level. He has since given us hit songs like Mad Over You, Energy, Unleash.
Earlier this year, Runtown released a compilation of songs named Soundgod Fest, Vol 1 some days after his Soundgod Fest concert. It contained some previously released songs and a couple of new songs. But many of his fans would appreciate a fresh body of work which is expected to reveal a newer sound.
Wande Coal
It is almost unbelievable that Wande Coal only has two studio albums to his credit. Then again, is it? Wande Coal has faced nearly insurmountable challenges but triumphed them all.
His debut album Mushin To Mohits is considered one of the greatest Nigerian albums of all time. However, his second album Wanted was unable to do justice to the name.
Wande Coal has reinvented his artistry in recent times, still staying relevant in the game and dropping hit songs. After Wande’s concert in Lagos last year December, many of his fans have cried out for an album. It has been years and Wande Coal ought to release a project for his loyal supporters and music lovers.
Reekado Banks
Reekado Banks released his first studio album Spotlight under Mavin Records. The album was highly commendable and Reekado amassed a huge following in no time.
He has released a score of hit singles including Like, Easy, Pull Up, Blessings On Me, and several others. He quit Mavin Records last year to start his own movement Banks Music.
Reekado’s fans have been looking forward to a project from the talented singer. 2019 seems like a good year to give his fans what they have been hungry for.
Dice Ailes
It appears as though we can never get enough of Dice Ailes. The Canada-based Nigerian singer has released a couple of hit songs like Miracle, Otedola, Ella, and more.
The Chocolate City artist has proven himself worthy of the attention he has received. Nevertheless, it would be much better if the young act released an album.
He has built a fan base and they are craving for a body of work so as to familiarize themselves more with his sound and story.
Teni Entertainer
Since Teni made her to mainstream last year, she has been on a steady rise. She has released hit singles like Askamaya, Wait, Case, and many more.
Teni has distinguished herself from many other artists with her unique sense of style and her jovial nature. She has worked with several musicians such as Boj, King Perryy, Shizzi, Zlatan, and more.
In a short while, Teni has achieved a lot and has gathered a huge fan base. She has been tipped by many music lovers and supporters to drop a body of work.
