Following the critical success of his single, ‘Better Love’, The Voice Nigeria season two winner and Universal Music artiste, Idyl, has announced the release of his second single, ‘Owami’, which drops on the 6th of July 2018. The song, which features South African songstress and fellow Universal Music act, Lungi Naidoo, is an electro-fusion and house inspired homage to contemporary Nigerian dance music.

Speaking on the release of the song, the General Manager, Universal Music Nigeria, Mr. Ezegozie Eze, said: “Even with his overwhelming success at the second edition of The Voice Nigeria, Idyl has shown that the talent, zeal, desire and determination which made him an instant fan favourite, continue to propel him towards greatness. His hard work, consistency and work ethic have already resulted in the widespread success of ‘Better Love’ and Universal Music is thrilled to announce the release of ‘Owami’, a unique song which straddles genres and sounds, therefore appealing to different audiences. The song features Lungi, another Universal Music artiste, and shows the magic that happens when the best talents from the across the continent collaborate.”

Owami features a unique blend of Nigerian and South African influences evident in the beats, lyrics, language and delivery, and Idyl, widely regarded as one of the best musical prospects out of Africa, is thrilled about everything the song represents.

“Besides being an exciting song , Owami  represents a cultural bridge between South Africa and Nigeria. The song is immediately relatable by listeners and fans in the two countries and indeed across the continent. I can’t wait for our fans to hear it”, added Idyl.

For her part, Lungi describes the experience recording Owami as exciting and revealing, even as she urged for more collaboration between artistes in Nigeria and South Africa.

“Recording this song with Idyl only reiterated the fact that both countries have more similarities than differences, not just musically but also culturally. The connection was immediate and we both appreciate the final product. We are more than confident that fans from across will share in this enthusiasm and appreciation”, added Lungi.
